This panel wants to deal with some of the most relevant political interventions regarding the water issue, taking into account the connection between nature and water resources,   the use of rivers and lakes, policies to overcome natural disasters such as the building of dams to stop the water from flowing, especially to produce electricity, etc, throughout the history of United States of America.

We welcome papers that are concerned with the water as a source of life and destructive element in natural disasters such as floods, draughts, etc. and their repercussions on housing and farming. Another crucial topic is considering water as the means of transportation that explorers, settlers, slaves and immigrants used in their trip to America. Besides, we want to focus our attention on the water crisis and its implications on the migratory movements.

We are particularly interested in perspectives that enhance the social awareness, political, economic, environmental and legislative issues that deal with American water resources.

In summary, we search for interdisciplinary papers which offer a view of the presence of water in the Unites States geography, history and culture.

Suggested Topics:

-Water crisis

-natural disasters such floods   and draughts and their implications on migratory movements

-legislation, social awareness, and their repercussions on housing and farming.
